* CONTEMPORARY EI-SHODOU (shodo) ART FRESCO TABLETS In
1990 Ranna invented ei-shodou ("ei" = English; shodou = Japanese
calligraphy) alphabet calligraphy and in 2001 Ranna completed her unique
innovation of contemporary ei-shodou art fresco tablets of English language
translations of 20 verses of the Zen text, the Genjoukoan. Executed
in Ranna's signature shimmer method, these ei-shodou art fresco tablets
bear ei-shodou transcriptions of the Zen verses. Inscribed on fresco
tablets created in a "found" method devised by Ranna to access raw iron
oxides, the result is a successful synthesis of contemporary art with
Western fresco techniques and Asian shodou art techniques .
